Artificial intelligence system

Automated system with varying autonomy that generates predictions, content, or decisions.

Art. 3(1)

Definition

An AI system is a machine-based system designed to operate with varying levels of autonomy that, from the input it receives, infers how to generate outputs such as predictions, content, recommendations, or decisions. The definition is deliberately broad and technology-neutral, so image generators, recommendation engines, and scoring tools can all fall inside it. What matters for your obligations is not the label on the tool but how the output is used.

What this means for your store

The image generator you use for product photos is an AI system. Your store does not build it, but you publish its output — which is what brings Article 50 into play for you.
