High-risk AI systems must technically allow the automatic recording of events over their lifetime, so that functioning can be traced and risk situations identified.

- Logging capability must be built into the system by design
- Logs must support traceability appropriate to the intended purpose
- Recording of usage periods, reference data, and inputs where relevant
- Supports post-market monitoring and incident investigation
- Deployers must retain logs under their control (see Article 26)
