Record-keeping and automatic logging

High-risk AI systems must technically allow the automatic recording of events over their lifetime, so that functioning can be traced and risk situations identified.

  • Logging capability must be built into the system by design
  • Logs must support traceability appropriate to the intended purpose
  • Recording of usage periods, reference data, and inputs where relevant
  • Supports post-market monitoring and incident investigation
  • Deployers must retain logs under their control (see Article 26)
